Caramel Bread Pudding

Bread pudding is a classic dessert that brings me back to basics.  I love the crunch of the exterior and the supple soft sponge of the interior. 

Ingredients:
6 slices or half a loaf of Challah or Brioche bread
1 cup hot water
1 cup dark brown sugar
4 eggs
1 cup cream
1 cup whole milk (or two cups half and half)
½ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp (or to taste) cinnamon
¼ salt
Golden raisins (if you desire, sometimes I do sometimes I dont)

Butter a 2-qt baking dish.  Cut the break into ½ inch cubes and arrange in baking dish.  Dissolve brown sugar in the water and pour over bread.  Whisk the remaining ingredients and pour over bread.  Bake at 350 for 1 hour. 

I enjoy my bread pudding served with a nice scoop of good vanilla ice cream.  I hope you enjoy this basic and lovely dessert as much as we do!
