Eggnog - Holiday Cheer in a Glass

Eggnog 

 
If you've never tried to make eggnog fresh - PLEASE do!  I mean what is better than drinking custard spiked with bourbon????  No seriously, freshly made eggnog is so delicious you'll never buy the store stuff again.  This creamy libation greets your taste buds with a sweet vanilla kiss finishing with a naughty bourbon slap. 
The best part is that you can modify it according to your taste.  Bourbon, Rum, Cognac oh my - pick your spike of choice and make it your own.  I bring my eggnog to holiday parties as the perfect gift for the host.

Ingredients:
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • Good healthy splash of vanilla
  • Vanilla bean seeded (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • As much bourbon as you can handle. I use 3 or 4 ounces. 
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh Nutmeg 

In a mixer, whip the egg yolks, sugar, salt, and vanilla until thick ribbon stage.

Add milk, cream, bourbon, nutmeg.   Mix well.


Optional:  Whip egg whites until soft peaks and add to the custard base, stir to incorporate.  The egg whites add a lot of volume and froth to the nog.


Pour into desired vessel of choice and sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg.


Serve over ice.  Enjoy!
